In response to threats facing our nation that could potentially jeopardize the $95 billion U.S. agriculture and health industry, the Department of Homeland Security commissioned the new National Bio and Agro-defense Facility (NBAF), located on the campus of Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. The BSL-4 facility replaces the Plum Island Animal Disease Center, a Federal Complex where research on foreign animal diseases has been ongoing since 1954.
WSP provided critical MEP engineering, site infrastructure and commissioning for the facility, including the specialty research laboratories, with a focus on enhancing the mandated national bio and agro-defense mission requirements of the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security, Health and Human Services and Agriculture.
