The Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in Baltimore reminded transportation officials everywhere that urgent crisis can come suddenly and unexpectedly. In this In Motion conversation, former state DOT leaders Paula Hammond, Davey Kim and Shawn Wilson join Sofia Berger, head of WSP’s transportation and infrastructure business line, to share their insights to planning for and responding to crisis.
When a runaway container ship caused the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, it took the lives of six construction workers, closed a major port, cut an interstate – and threw transportation officials into crisis mode. Maryland leaders reacted quickly, communicated clearly, and continue to handle the crisis with remarkable professionalism.
The incident reminds transportation officials everywhere that crisis can strike suddenly without warning. Planning is key to responding effectively.
Join Sofia Berger, head of WSP’s transportation and infrastructure business line, as she leads a conversation about responding to a transportation crisis with leaders who have been there before: Paula Hammond, former secretary, Washington State Department of Transportation; Davey Kim, former secretary, California State Transportation Agency; and Shawn Wilson, former Secretary, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.
