Established in 1908, Schofield Barracks is a U.S. Army installation site located at the foot of the Waianae mountain range on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.
Challenge
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) needed to connect a U.S. Army computerized training facility to the basewide power grid at Schofield Barracks.
Solution
USACE selected WSP to complete an electrical intertie to connect the training facility to the basewide power grid. The scope of work included providing a new overhead feeder into the Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Capability (JPMRC) compound at Schofield Barracks and connecting the compound to utility power. The JPMRC is a U.S. Army Pacific initiative that consists of a mobile package of personnel and equipment designed to support training exercises across the Pacific theater.
WSP provided a complete turnkey solution in 90 days that permitted using a combination of contractor furnished equipment and government furnished equipment. The solution included installing a 500kVA pad mounted transformer and a 1600A panel switch. At the client’s request, additional revenue metering to the JPMRC was also completed.
