NEW YORK — WSP, a leading engineering, environment and professional services firm, will receive the top fundraising honor from the Navy Seabee Foundation in recognition of the firm’s continuous financial support of the military organization.
WSP’s Federal Programs business will receive the Can Do Award, which is presented annually to a company that has made significant contributions to the Navy Seabee Foundation.
“The Navy Seabee Foundation is proud to honor WSP as one of our largest corporate partners and our 2024 annual Can Do Award winner,” said Rear Adm. Kevin Slates, chair of the Navy Seabee Foundation Board of Directors. “Their support began in 1995 and continues today.”
“I have a lot of personal history and unwavering respect for the Seabees – as a combat engineer who served in the Army for 41 years, culminating in my years as Chief of Engineers for the U.S. Army,” said Todd Semonite, LTG(R), PE, WSP Federal Programs president. “I have worked side by side with several Navy leaders over the years on doctrine, training, equipment, operational deployments and much more. Now that I am with WSP Federal Programs, we continue to work side-by side with many Navy organizations and are so proud to execute critical work on our Navy facilities that will directly improve Navy and Seabee readiness. It goes without saying that we are proud to be a passionate supporter of the Seabees!”
Travis Pital, PE, MS, vice president and West region project director for Federal Programs at WSP, is scheduled to receive the award on the firm’s behalf during the Seabee Celebration event on Sept. 14 at the U.S. Navy Seabee Museum in Port Hueneme, California. Pital also serves as the San Diego post president for Society of American Military Engineers.
Members of the U.S. Naval Construction Battalions, known as Seabees, are construction workers and engineers who are trained to build essential infrastructure in combat zones. The Navy Seabee Foundation is dedicated to preserving and protecting the history and legacy of the U.S. Navy Seabees and the U.S. Navy Civil Engineer Corps (CEC) through several preservation and financial support programs.
“Support from our corporate partners, such as leaders like WSP, helps us achieve our proud and important mission of supporting the U.S. Navy Seabee Museum, Seabee Heritage sites, and the granting of over $600,000 per year in scholarships to deserving family members of Seabees, CEC officers, and those who served with the Naval Construction Force,” Slates said.
