Water & Wastewater Tunnels

WSP provides our clients with a full complement of services for the planning, engineering design and construction management of water-supply tunnels, aqueducts, combined sewer overflow (CSO) tunnels and offshore outfalls, and deep shafts in all ground conditions. Our experience includes geotechnical investigations and assessments; ground improvement and tunneling design including tunnel boring machines (TBM), sequential excavation method (SEM) and micro-tunneling; tunneling in gassy or contaminated ground; shaft construction in congested urban settings; and seismic engineering to keep water tunnels operable in the event of earthquakes or other disasters.

In addition to tunneling, we develop complete water conveyance and wastewater collection systems, including pipelines, pump stations, flow control facilities, and shafts and special structures.

The role of water resources engineering in our communities is becoming increasingly vital considering our changing climate and the related impacts on water supply and control, and the need to restore degraded and polluted water sources.
